DR. SIMA GOEL is the author of "Fleeing the Hijab: A Jewish Woman’s Escape from Iran."

Sima will join us to recount her extraordinary journey of survival. In 1981 her mother heard that she was on Hezbollah’s list. That was when Sima went into hiding, leaving school and her family in Iran. After moving from city to city at the age of 17, her mother handed her over to smugglers to bring her to Pakistan and from there, to Canada. Her book "Fleeing the Hijab" is a true account of how she crossed the most dangerous desert in the world, rather than accept the restrictions of life in Iran.

Today, Sima is a successful chiropractor, fulfilling the dream of freedom that had fueled her youthful political protests, her flight into danger, her years of insecurity, and her determination to help others. She lives in Montreal, Canada, with her loving husband and her two teenage sons.

Lions of Judah are women who make individual gifts of $5,000 or more to the annual Campaign for Jewish Needs.

Pomegranates are women who make individual gifts of $1,800 - $4,999 to the annual Campaign for Jewish Needs.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make their commitments to the 2020 Campaign for Jewish Needs.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland is grateful for the sponsorship of Benesch.
