About the Senior Manager, Jewish Volunteer Network position:

The Senior Manager, Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) is responsible for overseeing all direct-service volunteer programming for the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and aims to be the primary contact for volunteerism in the Jewish community. This position serves as a clearinghouse for a robust variety of meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, teens, and groups that instill our Jewish values. The Senior Manager, JVN works in collaboration with other Jewish Federation of Cleveland staff, partner agencies, and non-profit organizations in Cleveland to develop strong connections, identify needs and offer quality volunteer opportunities that help needy and vulnerable individuals and their families. The Senior Manager, JVN is responsible for understanding the intersection between needs and hands-on opportunities both within the Jewish and general communities, identifying projects, and bringing them to fruition. In addition, the Senior Manager, JVN works with and manages an active volunteer committee to plan and execute projects.

This position is full-time and reports to the Assistant Vice President, External Affairs/International Operations.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Be a thought leader and implementer of how to best mobilize community volunteers to address community needs.
  2. Develop a strategy to expand current volunteer offerings and create mid to long-term volunteer programs that meet real needs in the Jewish community and the city of Cleveland.
  3. Oversee and manage the JVN Committee which is responsible for determining the continued direction of JVN programming in the context of Federation’s mission and expectations of the department. The JVN Committee meets bi-monthly, discusses strategies for continuing to strengthen JVN, and evaluates all current and future programming.
  4. Volunteer Director’s Network - Convene meetings of the Jewish Volunteer Director’s Network twice a year. Plan meeting agenda and facilitate meetings.
  5. Internal Partnerships - Work with internal staff, including those in the Community Relations and Planning departments, to ensure that programs and projects augment and support their work. In addition, work with program partners such as Directors of Young Leadership, Women in Philanthropy and PJ Library to assist with the planning of direct-service projects based on their interests and needs.
  6. External Partnerships - Develop and maintain external partnerships with organizations working in greater Cleveland to develop and support existing programming that meets identified needs and demonstrates a strong connection between the Jewish and general communities.
  7. Programming - Coordinate done-in-a-day and ongoing volunteer opportunities for volunteers of all ages which currently includes:
    1. Fall and Spring Community-Wide Cemetery Clean-Ups.
    2. Annual Good Deeds Day, two Young Leadership Day of Caring programs per year with assistance from YLD staff.
    3. Staff Harvest for Hunger Collection.
    4. Develop and implement annual Staff Day of Caring.
    5. Various collections to meet the client needs of Jewish and general Cleveland agencies.
    6. Other programming that arises from needs.
  8. Recruitment - Engage individuals and groups to volunteer to meet requests for help (in-person if possible).
  9. Marketing – Write and promote JVN and its activities in various ways including information on Jewish Cleveland Volunteers Facebook page.
  10. Act as a convener of community partners including synagogues, day schools and other local Jewish organizations to collaborate in social action programming. Maintain communication and be a resource for these agencies/organizations to identify collaborative social action programming based on mutual interests and ability to meet serious community needs and to assist them with developing age-appropriate volunteer opportunities.
  11. Refer interested volunteers to other known opportunities in the community. Follow up with referred volunteers to maintain a connection to the Federation.
  12. Track volunteer involvement and statistics in the Federation’s donor management software program.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
  • This position has an annual Campaign assignment and is responsible for identifying and cultivating direct-service volunteers who have the potential for further engagement with Federation.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
  1. Experience developing and implementing volunteer opportunities and events for varied audiences.
  2. Previous work or significant volunteer leadership experience in a non-profit organization.
  3. Ability to interact and develop positive relationships with a wide constituency of community members, including volunteer and professional leadership.
  4. Ability to translate a community need (e.g., food, literacy, etc.) into a volunteer program.
  5. Ability to manage complex programs and oversee small to large aspects of program implementation.
  6. Demonstrated ability to produce a high-quality work product in a high performance, team-based, and consultative organization.
  7. Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Commitment to volunteerism, and personal experience participating in volunteer projects.
  9. Demonstrated customer service acumen to manage and interact with volunteers.
  10. Self-driven and able to move initiatives to fruition.
  11. Working knowledge of and/or experience in Jewish communal structure/organizations, the Jewish community, and Jewish culture and traditions preferred.
  12. Depending on project, working outdoors, and standing for periods of time is required. Travel by automobile is required occasionally.
Education, Training and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or advanced degree preferred in a related field, such as nonprofit management or social service. Significant and equivalent work experience in a related professional field will be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  2. Experience in direct service volunteer management and large scale, community-based, event planning, and outcome measures.
