The Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s annual Campaign for Jewish Needs will close with an event on Dec. 13 to announce the grand total and honor Jonathon Nisenboum.

Nisenboum will receive the 2023 Amb. Milton A. and Roslyn Z. Wolf Young Campaigner of the Year Award, which recognizes leadership, dedication and hard work by a young leader on behalf of the campaign.

“He’s just been an incredible leader as the Young Leadership Division chair, and he’s got so much enthusiasm for the annual campaign,” Beth Wain Brandon, general campaign chair at the Federation, told the Cleveland Jewish News Dec. 5 about Nisenboum. “And he motivates so many others to become involved, to be a solicitor or a donor. He’s been so great to work with.”

Falling on the sixth night of Chanukah, the event will also feature the lighting of the menorah as it takes place in the Mandel Jewish Community Center’s Stonehill Auditorium in Beachwood.

Brandon reflected on the 2024 campaign, which launched a month prior to the Oct. 7 attack on Israel which precipitated the launching of a concurrent Israel Emergency Campaign.

“I think that our annual campaign has been strengthened by the emergency campaign,” she said. “People believe that it is still so meaningful to support this year’s annual campaign and the Israel Emergency Campaign. People have been enthusiastic about both. People want to help Israel and also help our own Jewish community, and I’ve just seen so much generosity in our community since the announcement of the two concurrent campaigns.”

While the emergency campaign will continue on to address the “ongoing, extreme needs in Israel,” the annual campaign will close Dec. 13 and those funds will later be allocated to support not only needs in Israel, but for ongoing local needs as well, she said.

While the Federation mobilized to launch the emergency campaign immediately after Oct. 7, Brandon said the annual campaign is the reason they could respond so quickly.

“Our campaign has long-standing relationships with our partners on the ground in Israel,” she said. “And because we were there Oct. 6, we could be there Oct. 7, and we were able to immediately send funds over on Oct. 8. And we will continue those relationships on into the future.”

With the campaign coming to a close, she expressed there is still time left to contribute.

“We are so grateful for all of the community support,” Brandon said. “And it’s not too late to give if you want to be part of this amazing campaign. Every dollar and every donation makes a huge difference.”
