The Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Young Leadership Division, in partnership with the Israeli American Council, hosted its third annual Mimouna Celebration on April 12 at the Federation’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building in Beachwood.
Nearly 100 community members gathered to mark the end of Passover with a festive evening featuring traditional Moroccan delicacies and cultural traditions celebrating this Moroccan Jewish holiday.
Mimouna marks the end of Passover with a festive celebration featuring a variety of leavened bread, or chametz. Attendees came together to enjoy the customary Mimouna foods and to embrace a celebration now widely incorporated into Israeli life. Many residents in Cleveland’s sister community in Israel, Beit Shean/Valley of Springs, are of Moroccan descent, and the city comes alive each year as the community celebrates this holiday together. This has become a tradition that is shared each year, sending photos and videos of celebrations to each other, and sharing customs back and forth.
