A message from our national partner, Jewish Federations of North America
As you all are aware, in the past days heavy rain has contributed to wide-spread flooding in Houston. Inundating hundreds of homes in high-density Jewish neighborhoods, the situation is a nightmare for thousands of people who have been shut off from municipal services, highways and schools.
Follow-up conversations with Federation Executive Director Lee Wunsch have confirmed that the short-term impact on a number of Jewish families in the Houston community will be significant. However, it will take days to fully assess damages and many months to recover and rebuild.
The JFNA Emergency Committee has allocated $25,000 to provide urgent assistance to the 50,000-strong Jewish community. The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston has opened a mailbox to gather contributions in response to this disaster. For those of you who would like to make a contribution, please use this link: Jewish Federation of Greater Houston's Flood Relief Fund.
We send our support and prayers to those affected by the flooding and stand beside them during the recovery and rebuilding.
Jerry Silverman is president and CEO of The Jewish Federations of North America.
