Jewish Federation of Cleveland Announces 2026 Class of Mandel Myers Fellows
The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced today the 2026 cohort of Mandel Myers Fellows who worked as staff at select Jewish overnight summer camps. This year’s program featured a cohort of 83 fellows.
Established in 2022, the Mandel Myers Fellowship Program helps Jewish overnight camps attract and retain high-caliber staff while supporting Cleveland students as they pursue their higher education. The program also enhances the camp counselor experience by providing professional development opportunities that help make the role more competitive with other summer internships.
The program is funded by five-year grants totaling $1.8 million from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Supporting Foundation and $450,000 from the David and Inez Myers Foundation. Returning overnight camp counselors receive a scholarship of up to $5,500, while first-time overnight camp counselors receive a scholarship of up to $4,500 to help offset the costs associated with attending an accredited four-year college or university.
In addition to receiving a scholarship, fellows participated in three professional development workshops throughout the summer. Several fellows were matched with professionals in different career areas who serve as mentors in their field of interest.
“The support this program provides has been incredible,” said Liv Arenberg, a counselor at Camp Wise and student at Cleveland State University. “The financial assistance has been especially meaningful and has helped ease the burden of taking out additional loans. The program also connected me with a mentor in the Cleveland area – an invaluable opportunity that isn’t always easy to find.”
The Mandel Myers Fellowship Program is a program of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and operates in partnership with Jewish Family Service Association and Foundation for Jewish Camp.
