We are saddened to share the loss of David Miller z"l, board life trustee. Among his many contributions, David played a key role in establishing and sustaining a community security endowment fund, helping to ensure the long-term safety and strength of the Jewish community.

Our thoughts are with the entire Miller family during this difficult time. May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem and may David's memory be for a blessing.

With sadness and deep gratitude for a long life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of David P. Miller on June 6, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Cleveland on Aug. 2, 1932, to Myrtle and Lewis Miller, David lived a life defined by integrity, generosity, loyalty and devotion to family and community. He possessed strength and wisdom that drew people to him, and he left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

David believed deeply in the responsibility to care for others and to strengthen the community around him. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to acts of tzedakah and service, supporting causes that reflected both his values and his gratitude for the opportunities he had been given.

As Chairman and CEO of Columbia National Group and several subsidiary companies, he employed thousands of people in the steel service, scrap metal, recycling and railroad construction industries.

His commitment to the Jewish community was especially meaningful. As a Trustee for Life of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, David helped establish and sustain initiatives that would protect and strengthen Jewish life for generations to come. He was a devoted member of Park Synagogue, where he contributed to the original construction and recent expansion of its Park East campus. He also funded scholarships for students so they could attend Jewish summer camp.

He made multiple contributions, including the refurbishment of the former Park Synagogue campus in Cleveland Heights, where the original Miller Chapel and adjacent Miller Plaza are being restored. He was a Trustee for Life of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, where he served for many years as a board of trustees member and a committed member of it's Endowment committee, where among other things he helped establish and maintain a community security endowment fund.

At Menorah Park, he also received the title of Life Trustee, and he pioneered the first in the nation computer lab for seniors with complete ongoing daily instruction. Additionally, he established the in-home Miller Pharmacy to service the thousand plus residents. His generosity also provided a much-needed full-service ambulance. David was also an active participant and Board member of the Mt. Sinai Foundation

David's kindness extended far beyond the Jewish community. He was a passionate supporter of education, healthcare and opportunities for young people. Through his gifts to University Hospitals, David established the David P. Miller Scholars and Research program to enable University Hospital to attract and retain leading physicians to its Department of Dermatology.

Additionally, he funded the David P. Miller and Frances A. Cosentino master clinician in thoracic and esophageal surgery research. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was a major contributor to the Career Connection Office that assisted students to obtain career focused internships and training. David received his college prep education at the Tilton School in Tilton, N.H., where he regularly contributed to a wide variety of student-centered programs and buildings, where he quietly opened doors for countless individuals he would never meet.

Yet for all of his accomplishments, David was proudest of the relationships he built. For more than forty years, he shared a loving partnership with Frances Cosentino, creating a life rich in friendship, companionship, laughter and unwavering support.

David embraced Fran’s family as his own and found great joy in family gatherings and celebrations. He is survived by his loving family, including Joseph Vinci (Suzanne Shealy), Camerin Winovich (Antonello Bux) and Thomas Vinci (Nina Golding) along with seven grandchildren; Joey (of blessed memory), Michael, Nicholas Vinci, Luke (Lizzy Petitt-fiancé) and Sydney Winovich, Jake and Zoe Vinci, and his cousin Sally Good. He cherished their accomplishments, celebrated their milestones and took immense pride in watching the family grow.

Those who knew David will remember his generosity, wit and genuine interest in others. He never sought recognition for his good deeds, preferring instead to make a difference quietly and thoughtfully. His life was a testament to the Jewish values of compassion, responsibility and service.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life of meaning and purpose. The institutions he strengthened, the friendships he nurtured, the family he loved and the countless people he helped will continue to bear witness to his legacy.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at Park Synagogue at 27500 Shaker Blvd. Pepper Pike Ohio 44124. Interment will immediately follow at Bet Olam Cemetery, at the corner of Richmond Road and Chagrin Boulevard in Beachwood.

Family will receive friends at Park Synagogue on Tuesday following services and interment until 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, the David P. Miller Director of Community-Wide Security or the David P. Miller Dermatology Scholars and Research program c/o fundraising@UHgiving.org
