Statement on Justice

In the wake of numerous tragic police shootings in minority communities both here in Cleveland and in other cities, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland applauds the commitment of the U.S. Department of Justice, Mayor Jackson, and city officials to work together to implement seriously needed reforms. We are proudly a nation of laws, but justice needs to be perceived as real, not only technically administered. When one part of the community suffers injustice, we all suffer. Every citizen has the right to feel that they are equally protected by law enforcement. We hope and pray that these efforts in Cleveland, together with the national task force convened by President Obama, will result in meaningful and lasting change.
