The Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland is gravely concerned about the refugee crisis unfolding in Europe and the Middle East. As a member of the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, the Federation system is addressing this growing humanitarian crisis with a coordinated response. To date, over half a million dollars has been raised by the North American Jewish community to aid these refugees.

Our Jewish heritage and values compel us to express our sadness and compassion for the plight of the refugees. We believe that silence in the face of oppression and grave atrocities is never acceptable. It is critical that the international community address the root causes of the crisis, namely the brutality of the civil war in Syria.

Given the most recent tragedies befalling the refugees fleeing Syria and seeking to enter Europe, we urgently call on both governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide humanitarian assistance. Furthermore, those in the Cleveland community who would like to donate funds to directly benefit the refugees are invited to do so at http://jcdr.org.
