We hope to see you at one of our many May events! This month, we're celebrating Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel's Independence Day) with two community events, sprucing up a local Jewish cemetery's grounds, and recognizing Jewish Cleveland's accomplishments at our annual meeting.


May 8
A Concert for Yom Ha'atzmaut with The Shalva Band 

The Shalva Band, comprised of eight talented musicians with disabilities, performed on season six of The Rising Star in Israel. Hundreds of thousands of people tuned into the popular broadcast to watch their performances.

Fireside Chat with Simon Ziff

Enjoy networking and a conversation with Simon Ziff, moderated by Michael Haas, partner and global co-chair of the real estate practice at Latham & Watkins. Breakfast with the IDF Education Corps and Youth Futures Delegation

Join us as we welcome a joint delegation of two important Israeli programs for youth at-risk. While both organizations serve different age groups – Youth Futures focuses on elementary-aged children and their families, and the IDF’s Education Corps focuses on 18- and 19-year-olds – they are both part of our Federation ecosystem focused on supporting vulnerable populations.

IsraelFest! for Yom Ha'atzmaut

Celebrate Israel with an OUTDOOR carnival, including:

  • Live Israeli music from IsraBand
  • Activities, games, and crafts for all ages
  • Stilt walkers, jugglers, and entertainers
  • Free spirit station with Israel-themed swag
  • Kosher food and alcohol available for purchase
  • A shuk (Israeli marketplace) with Israeli gifts and foods for purchase

Spring Cemetery Cleanup

There’s no greater mitzvah than caring for those who came before us. Join volunteers of all ages and honor our ancestors by raking, pruning, and beautifying a local Jewish cemetery. All cleanup supplies will be provided.

Shavuot Celebration with PJ Library® and Mandel JCC

Join PJ Library and the Mandel Jewish Community Center to celebrate the upcoming holiday, Shavuot, which commemorates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai. We will sing songs with local musician, Maggie Wise, and taste the sweet tradition of eating dairy for the holiday.
