Upcoming Events for You
We hope you’ll join us for our November events! This month, our whole community is invited to celebrate Shabbat for Good—a weekend of connection and purpose. You can also volunteer for the annual Campaign, explore our newest Roe Green Gallery exhibition at an open house, and lend a hand at the Cleveland Chesed Center.

Exhibition Open House for “MEMORY” by Moshe Gershuni
Moshe Gershuni (1936-2017), among the most significant Israeli artists, was born in Tel Aviv to Polish-Jewish parents. His passionate and deeply personal work reflects the challenges of Israeli life, often addressing grief and memory. Gershuni blends many cultural and historical references, including Jewish and Christian religious ideas and the Holocaust.
View “Kaddish”, a magnificent 1997 portfolio illustrating the homonymous poem written by the American Jewish beatnik poet Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) on the death of his mother. The portfolio includes 24 images screen-printed on goldleaf next to the original text with Hebrew translation by the eminent Israeli poet Natan Zach. Six beautiful large-scale prints created in 2000s with similar visual themes are also on view.
The complete “Kaddish” is on display at Congregation Mishkan Or and Gershuni’s independent works can be seen at the Federation’s Roe Green Gallery.

Light in the Darkness with Rachel Goldberg-Polin and Jon Polin
Since October 7, 2023, Rachel Goldberg-Polin and Jon Polin have tirelessly advocated for the release of their son, Hersh Goldberg-Polin z"l, and all the hostages. Hersh, a 23-year-old American-Israeli, was wounded and abducted by Hamas during the Nova music festival massacre. He was held hostage in Gaza for nearly 11 months, until his body was recovered from a tunnel in August 2024.
Join us for an inspiring conversation with Rachel and Jon, whose powerful voices represent the heart of our work – from standing in solidarity with our global Jewish community to advocating for those impacted by terrorism.

Shabbat for Good
Celebrate Shabbat for Good with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and synagogues across our community! Together, we’re striving to reach 613 pledges—one for each of the 613 mitzvot—during this special weekend of connection and purpose.
Take part in three meaningful activities throughout the weekend:
1. Celebrate Shabbat
Shabbat is our sacred pause — a time to rest, reflect, and reconnect. Whether you light candles at home, share a meal with friends, attend services, or simply step away from the rush of daily life, know that you’ll be part of a community-wide celebration of Jewish connection.
2. Make Your Gift to the annual Campaign for Jewish Needs
The annual Campaign sustains our community — ensuring that Jewish Cleveland remains safe, strong, and caring. Your support helps provide for older adults, strengthen student mental health, enhance security, and care for Jews in need here and around the world.
3. Volunteer On Sunday, November 23 (11 am – 4 pm), join us at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building for a community-wide Outreach Hour. Together, we’ll reach out to fellow synagogue members by phone, text, and email to encourage their participation.
There will also be PJ Library® activities for children ages 3 and up from 11 am to 2 pm — a perfect opportunity for families to get involved.
