Description

Join the Young Leadership Division (YLD) for a day of hands-on volunteering. You’ll meet new people and make a difference in our community! Multiple volunteer opportunities will be available across Cleveland, including some that are family-friendly.

Meet for a brief orientation at the Federation, then head over to your volunteer activity!

Please bring gently used clothing and new school supplies to the Federation for donation to the Cleveland Chesed Center. Markers and Pencil Boxes are of particular need.

Bagel breakfast will be served
(kosher dietary laws observed)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Cleveland Chesed Center
• The Cleveland Chesed Center addresses food insecurity in our community by distributing kosher food to families at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. The center also provides furniture, clothing, and personal care items to families in need.
• Organize and sort donated items

The Kids’ Book Bank
• The Kids’ Book Bank fosters improved literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need.
• Sort and repack donated books which will then be distributed to partner organizations, including Federation’s Public Education Initiative (PEI) tutoring program.

Garden Valley Neighborhood House
• Garden Valley Neighborhood House, located in one of Cleveland’s most challenging areas, offers community members a food pantry, children’s after-school care, parenting classes and job related readiness skills.
• Help prepare food with children who are running a Kids Café at Garden Valley Neighborhood House later that afternoon.

Stone Gardens Assisted Living – A Residence of Menorah Park
• Stone Gardens is for residents who may need assistance with daily activities, have high standards of residential living and value their independence and privacy.
• Young Families are invited to participate in a Sing and Swing Music Together Generations class at Stone Gardens. The developmentally appropriate music and movement class is for children ages 0-5 with the grown-ups who love them. Stone Gardens residents will join us for the class.

Metroparks with YouthAbility
• The JFSA Horvitz YouthAbility program serves disabled and at-risk youth by engaging them in volunteer service, vocational activities, and social enrichment. YouthAbility participants help themselves by helping others.
• YouthAbility has adopted a trail in the Cleveland Metroparks. Join us as we trailblaze, pull invasive species, and spread wood chips along the trail alongside YouthAbility.

Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village
• Rescue Village is a leading animal welfare agency in Northeast Ohio that treats animals with compassion and respect and inspires people to build a more humane community.
• Volunteers will have the opportunity to tour the facility, work on a scent trail for the dogs, or help socialize the dogs by reading PJ Library® books.

US Together
• Since 2008, US Together has been providing services to immigrant and refugee populations acclimate them to life in Cleveland.
• Garden alongside a refugee family as we work together to landscape the yards of their new Cleveland homes.
