Remembering October 7 Two Years Later

Tags: Federation, Israel, Video

On October 5, our community came together in sorrow and in strength to mark two years since the horrific attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. Together, we reflected, remembered, and listened to stories that continue to shape our collective memory. We honored the innocent lives so cruelly taken and reaffirmed our promise never to forget.

As guests entered the room, each received a flower — a simple, powerful tribute representing a life lost on that tragic day. On every chair rested a yahrzeit candle, bearing the name of someone who was murdered on October 7.

We were deeply moved by the words of Lior Carmel, chairman of Kibbutz Kissufim, and Yahel Lipshitz, a survivor of the October 7 attack who was attending the Midburn Festival near the Nova site. Their stories of unimaginable loss and resilience touched every heart in the room and reminded us of the enduring spirit of the Israeli people.

Forty-eight yellow chairs stood empty — a stark and painful symbol of the hostages who remain in captivity more than two years later. We continue to hold them and their families in our prayers, yearning for the day when every one of them returns home.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all of our speakers and to our event co-chairs, Rachel and Rabbi Rafi Glickman and Jill and Michael Stovsky, for helping us create a space of remembrance, unity, and hope.
