BEERSHEBA, Israel -- While I moved to Israel two years ago, a big part of me will always be a Clevelander. It’s the part of me that wakes up at 2 a.m. for Browns games, the part that misses Mitchell’s hot fudge, and the part that still says “ope” when sliding past someone at the supermarket. I am just like you, but recently, my life has been nothing like yours.

Congregations across Cleveland joined in on an effort ignited by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland to create solidarity-based Shabbat services June 25 to June 27 where the Jewish community took a stand against rising trends of antisemitism.

Deborah E. Lipstadt, the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, spoke about the rising trend in antisemitism, unpacked different forms of prejudice and ways the world can come together to overcome Jew hatred in a webinar hosted by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland with the Anti-Defamation League and AJC Cleveland June 24.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland brought together the Jewish and general Cleveland community for a virtual event with acclaimed author and historian Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt.

Harel* is the youngest of four children and is in his second year of Youth Futures, a Federation-supported program.

When Betty became the primary caregiver for her husband, Alan, after he was diagnosed with dementia, she turned to JFS's Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Caregiver Support program for help. The Jewish Federation initiated the Nakum Task Force to help our community take on the devastating and increasing number of community members suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Chaired by Kyla Epstein Schneider, the Nakum Task Force recommended increasing caregiver support, leading to a partnership between the Federation and JFSA.

In the midst of rising antisemitism trends across the United States, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s security provider, JFC Security, LLC, compiled a list of safety recommendations for the Jewish community to follow, where individuals can also protect the entire community.
