The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced today that Heather Schlang is the 2022 recipient of the Irene Zehman Volunteer Award. Each year, the Federation recognizes a Jewish woman or group of women who demonstrate the highest ideals and practices of volunteer service on behalf of the Jewish and/or general community. Schlang, a community volunteer and Chair of Share What You Wear (SWYW), a project of the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland (NCJW/CLE), will be honored at the Federation’s Women IN Philanthropy MaIN Event on December 1.

The Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) partakes in meaningful and vital direct service opportunities across Cleveland that meet the ever-increasing needs in the Jewish and general communities.

For nearly 10 years, Hillel at Kent State University and the AEPi fraternity have held a name-reading ceremony to commemorate Yom HaShoah. The 24-hour event is held on the campus of Kent State University; Jewish and non-Jewish students take turns reading the names of those who lost their life during the Holocaust.

The Federation has been dedicated to caring for Holocaust survivors for decades. By leveraging the Kavod Shef matching funds, the Federation and JFSA can continue to provide the support and share with survivors in our Cleveland community the resources they need to live comfortably and more dignified.

The Mandel Myers Fellowship Program enables Jewish overnight camps to attract and retain high-caliber staff, help students from Cleveland offset the costs associated with attending a four-year accredited university, and add professional development experience to the camp counselor role to make it more competitive with other internship opportunities.

JFC Security, LLC was established in 2013 to be Federation’s security provider to Jewish Cleveland, helping to keep Jewish Cleveland better protected so we can live active, Jewish lives.

In February 2022, just minutes before men aged 16-60 were banned from evacuating Ukraine, the Jasnogor family crossed into Poland from Lviv. With the help of Jewish Federations and our partners on the ground, the Jasnogors were the last family to make aliyah all together.

Our first-ever Super Sunday Kickoff was a true celebration of everything that makes Jewish Cleveland so special and the impact we make together.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland celebrated the 74th Birthday of Israel at Yom Ha'atzmaut.
