CLEVELAND – 24 Jewish high school juniors and seniors from public and private high schools across Cleveland have come together to recommend grants totaling $45,000 to 16 organizations for crucial programs in the Jewish and general community through the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s 2021-2022 Maurice Saltzman Youth Panel.

Applications are now open for the 2022-2023 Saltzman Youth Panel.

April 30, 2020 will live in infamy for the Camp Wise community. On that day, the Mandel Jewish Community Center (MJCC) made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Camp Wise summer due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic.

In recognition of Yom Hashoah V'Hagvurah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), WKYC profiled Testimony Theater Cleveland, a program in which 7th-12th grade students interview Holocaust survivors and their families about their experiences and then act out those stories as a powerful and emotional stage performance. Programs like this help ensure future generations never forget the atrocities of the Holocaust or the six million Jews whose lives were lost.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland will host its annual Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration – a festival celebrating Israel’s Independence Day – on Thursday, May 5 at 6 pm outside at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and The Temple-Tifereth Israel (2929 Richmond Road in Beachwood). It is free and open to the community.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland and Kol Israel Foundation will honor Cleveland’s Holocaust survivors and remember those who perished during Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 pm at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple (23727 Fairmount Blvd in Beachwood). A virtual event will also be available. This event is free and open to the community.

Jewish Family Service Association of Cleveland recently announced an expansion of its longstanding college financial aid program with the newly established Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Scholarship Program aimed at helping middle income families face the challenge of paying for college.

From June 9 to Aug. 3, 36 Jewish college students or recent graduates from or living in Greater Cleveland ventured to Tel Aviv through Onward Israel’s partnership with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland in Beachwood.
