There is no greater mitzvah (good deed) than caring for those who came before us.

One of the missions of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland is to Leave No One Behind. That is the same message of Empowering Youth Exploring Justice (EYEJ) – to empower and amplify the voices of teens and pre-teens by bridging them with diverse individuals to engage in interactive discussions centered around social justice.

The cause that drove Judi Kovach, co-founder and chair of the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, to embrace the value of tikkun olam is children’s access to books, however she said others should work to find a cause that inspires them toward that same Jewish value.

Giving of yourself – it’s one of the biggest mitzvah’s you can do. Volunteers give of their time, some for longer periods, some are ‘Done in a Day.’

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced that Judi Kovach, Co-Founder and Chair of the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, is the 2018 recipient of the Irene Zehman Award.

Securing our community is one of the top priorities of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. Thanks to a generous donation from Barb and Abe Miller, the Federation will be distributing 550 Project Safe Classroom Backpacks to Jewish Cleveland classrooms, including all Jewish Cleveland day schools, religious schools, and early childhood centers. Over the course of two days, students from Yavne School for Girls and Fuchs Mizrachi School – Federation beneficiary agencies – as well as members of our Young Leadership Division (YLD) volunteered their time to fill the backpacks with medical and emergency supplies and safety equipment.

Laughter is the best medicine, but a little bit of magic never hurt either!
