The Jewish Federation of Cleveland will host author Sarah Hurwitz at its annual Women IN Philanthropy MaIN Event at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Green Road Synagogue at 2437 S. Green Road in Beachwood in support of the 2026 Campaign for Jewish Needs.

The congregants at Congregation Mishkan Or had just settled. Hundreds turned their attention to the bimah and awaited the first solemn notes of Kol Nidre, one of the most moving melodies of the High Holy Days. But before the gathering of Jews could begin their Yom Kippur service, Rabbi Yael Dadoun made an announcement.

Two Israelis shared their personal experiences of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas-led surprise attack on Israel with more than 1,200 community members and dignitaries at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s 10-7-23 Commemoration.

Susan, whose name has been changed to protect client confidentiality, never expected her family’s world to change so quickly. Around 2020, she began noticing her mom’s memory slipping. What started as small lapses soon grew into something much harder – her mom needed constant care, and her dad was struggling to keep up with the changes. It became clear that her parents could no longer manage on their own.
