Jewish Cleveland Welcomes Henderson

CLEVELAND – Wade Henderson, a visionary leader of the civil and human rights movement, joins the Jewish Federation of Cleveland to discuss “Public Education, Civil Rights, and Inequality” at the 69th Annual Meeting of the Community Relations Committee (CRC) and Sidney Z. Vincent Memorial Lecture. The event takes place on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Maltz Performing Arts Center (1855 Ansel Road, Cleveland). The event is free and open to the public; registration is strongly encouraged.

Addressing Professor's Anti-Semitic Views

CLEVELAND – In response to the recent anti-Semitic views expressed on social media by an Oberlin College assistant professor that garnered international attention, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, AJC Cleveland, the Anti-Defamation League Cleveland Region and the Cleveland Hillel Foundation met with Oberlin College President Marvin Krislov and several of his senior staff. In a welcoming atmosphere, we discussed, openly and candidly, the potential implications of a professor’s personal views on classroom activity and student intimidation. We also discussed our shared respect for academic freedom.

Starrfield was presented the award at the Federation’s Board meeting on February 29.

Gross Schechter: New Director, Creative Programs

Gross Schechter Day School is pleased to announce that Sheri Gross will join the faculty in a newly-created position, Director of Creative Programs, for the 2016-2017 academic year. In her new role, Sheri will be working in collaboration with the faculty and staff to develop new, creative Jewish and arts programming school-wide that spans the areas of tefillah (prayer), Torah study, Jewish holidays, rituals and more. Her role will be central in enhancing the vibrancy of Jewish life in our Schechter community. Students will also have the opportunity to work with Sheri on presentation skills, particularly in association with class programs and public speaking. Sheri will be a creative consultant for some of our existing community programs, such as Monday Fun Day, and will help develop new programming. Sheri will be working with all students, from the Early Childhood Program through Eighth Grade.
