Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s YLD Big Event might appeal to both children and adults as Jerry Greenfield takes the virtual stage to talk about social responsibility.

In its first virtual Super Sunday, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland raised $979,315 from 900 gifts for its Campaign for Jewish Needs on Oct. 18.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland will host its annual “Super Sunday” event – Jewish Cleveland’s single largest one-day give-a-thon of the year – on Sunday, October 18 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. For the first time ever, this event will be completely virtual so community members will be able to volunteer from the comfort of their own home. Funds raised will benefit the 2021 Campaign for Jewish Needs, which provides critical dollars needed to change and improve lives in Cleveland and around the world.

Planned giving is something older adults tend to participate in – whether through an estate plan or annual funds. However, many organizations find themselves in need of targeting new and younger donors.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announced today its next cohort of Young Leadership Division (YLD) Microgrant Program recipients. Through its Microgrant Program, YLD looks to expand upon the thriving, vibrant Jewish Cleveland young adult community by empowering individuals or groups to create, plan, and host experiences for Jewish Clevelanders ages 22-45.

While COVID-19 was causing plenty of damage felt in the present, it was also leaving a trail of destruction stretching into years forward.

Around 23 million Americans filed for unemployment in April 2020 – not including the millions of college students who have not entered the work force yet, many of whom planned on doing so this summer. Adam Hirsh, executive director of Hillel at Kent State University, a Federation beneficiary agency, recalls that it was “heartbreaking to hear of all of the cancelled jobs, internships, trips and other planned summer experiences” of the students he works with.

As the COVID-19 pandemic presses on, the Cleveland restaurant community is beginning to understand the real impacts of closures and the fear of going out even after restrictions have been lifted.
