Adeena Sussman, chef, author and advocate for Israel, will make an appearance in Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Women IN Philanthropy MaIN Event, named to reference inclusivity, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 21 at Green Road Synagogue at 2437 S. Green Road in Beachwood.

The event is meant to create a space for women to connect and learn from each other while aiding in the Federation’s campaign, Ilana Isakov Katz, event chair and self-employed marketing consultant, told the Cleveland Jewish News.

“Not only does the event create a powerful space for women who participate in our campaign to connect with one another and share experiences and draw strength from one another’s journeys, it reinforces our mission and demonstrates and celebrate our commitment to the role of women in our community,” Isakov Katz said.

Sussman, a New York Times bestselling author, has “placed a spotlight on traditional Jewish cooking with a contemporary spin” and attracted a younger audience to the kitchen with her cookbooks – “Shabbat: Recipies and Rituals From My Table to Yours” and “Sababa: Fresh Sunny Flavors From My Israeli Kitchen,” she said. Her social media has also created interest in Israel post-Oct. 7, 2023.

“She’s utilized her social media and it has piqued an interest in how Israel continues to merge from that fateful day, finding the light and meaning from the disaster, how food continues to nurture, heal and strengthen us as a community during adversity, and the part that we can all play in the process – whether it’s in Tel Aviv or Cleveland,” Isakov Katz said.

At the event, Dassi Shtern will receive the 2024 Irene Zehman Volunteer Award for her work with Chaviva High School for Girls in Pepper Pike and the inspiration and strength it shares with the community, she said.

“Dassi has shown the powerful role that women play in transforming communities and inspiring the next generation of female leaders,” Isakov Katz said.

Tickets for the event are $54, with a discounted price of $36 for agency professionals and students. Registration is required by Nov. 15. To purchase tickets, bit.ly/4hxbM0V.
