The family-friendly event you've been waiting for!

Join the Jewish Federation of Cleveland as we celebrate this global day of good deeds! Families and individuals of all ages are invited to volunteer with us across Cleveland's Jewish and general community.

Please Note: Pre-registration is required.

Volunteer at 10 different social service organizations within the Jewish and general community. Space is limited!

ABOUT GOOD DEEDS DAY:
Good Deeds Day is an international day of service that was founded in Israel in 2007. In 2018, 3.5 million volunteers from 100 countries around the world came together on one day to do good and prove that anyone can make a difference.

Register to be part of a VolunTeam for a Good Deeds Day project. Only a certain number of slots are available for each opportunity.

Look for an email from your VolunTeam Leader during the week of March 18 with detailed information about your volunteer opportunity.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

BIKUR CHOLIM OF CLEVELAND

Where: 3653 Shannon Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118

Time: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm and/or 2:00 – 4:30 pm

Volunteers Needed: 6 for each session

Age Requirement: 16+ and adults (light house painting experience needed)

Project: Bikur Cholim owns four houses available at no charge to families while in Cleveland with a loved one receiving medical care at an area hospital. Give the Shannon Road house a fresh look by prepping and painting inside rooms.

Optional Donation Item: Cleaning supplies for Passover

About Bikur Cholim: Dedicated to serving Jewish community members by providing assistance to improve health and well-being in accordance to Jewish tradition. Comfort, shelter, and support come through a variety of coordinated efforts during a medical crisis.



FULL - CLEVELAND CHESED CENTER

Where: 1898 S. Taylor Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 10 families

Age Requirement: All ages

Project: Brighten the day of a family or individual struggling to make ends meet by delivering Passover food boxes to them followed by a friendly visit. Food packages include chicken, meat, fish, grape juice, matzahs, paper goods and cleaning products. Conversation starters will be shared in advance.

Optional Donation Item: Passover candy with Kosher certification (look for an OU certification with a "P" for Passover on the package)

About the Cleveland Chesed Center: Ensures that individuals and families in the Jewish community are provided with basic necessities including food, household supplies, furniture, and clothing, all while respecting their dignity and privacy.



DRINK LOCAL. DRINK TAP. with JFSA’s HORVITZ YOUTHABILITY

Where: Edgewater Beach, 6500 Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, OH 44102

Time: 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 50

Age Requirement: All ages (small children must be monitored by parents)

Project: Join YouthAbility and help clean up Edgewater Beach using provided supplies as we will walk the beach (rain or shine) collecting trash, litter, and other debris. Items picked up will be tallied and used to help create policy changes that help protect our Great Lakes.

Optional Donation Item(s): Trash bags; 5 gallon buckets

About Drink Local. Drink Tap.: Inspires individuals to recognize and solve our water issues through creative education, events, and providing safe water access to people in need.

About JFSA’s Horvitz YouthAbility: Serves disabled and at-risk youth by engaging them in volunteer service, vocational activities, and social enrichment. Participants help themselves by helping others.


FULL - GEAUGA HUMANE SOCIETY, RESCUE VILLAGE

Where: 15463 Chillicothe Rd., Russell Township, OH 44072

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 20

Age Requirement: 8+ with adult

Project: Read books to dogs outside their crate and make blankets for cats; then have cuddle time with puppies.

About Rescue Village: Acts on behalf of animals and inspires people to build a more humane community. This organization envisions a humane world where animals are treated with compassion and respect.



FULL - HAVEN HOME

Where: 6114 Francis Ave., Cleveland, OH 44127

Time: 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 5 families

Age Requirement: 8+ with adult

Project: Read and play games with children, sort donated clothing and supplies

Optional Donation Item: Umbrellas; rain ponchos

About The Haven Home: Provides emergency overflow shelter to homeless women and children awaiting beds at local family shelters.



FULL - KIDS' BOOK BANK

Where: Neighborhood Little Libraries in Cleveland

Time: Up to you and your schedule

Volunteers Needed: 15 families

Age Requirement: All ages

Project: Follow a designated route to stock several Little Free Libraries, the endearing book-sharing kiosks scattered throughout Cleveland neighborhoods that encourage reading to children who otherwise might not have books of their own. Books can be supplied in advance or you can donate your own.

About Kids' Book Bank: Fosters improved literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need in Greater Cleveland.



FULL - MONTEFIORE AND TRADER JOE’S

Where: One David N. Myers Pkwy., Beachwood, OH 44122

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 10 families

Age Requirement: 4+ with parent

Project: Hand’s on project making vases with residents using donated flowers from Trader Joe’s

Optional Donation: Puzzles; word search books

About Montefiore: Cares for Cleveland's aging Jewish and general community by providing excellent and comprehensive care to individuals as they age and support to families.

About Trader Joe’s: A neighborhood grocery store featuring food and drink from around the globe and around the corner that believes in giving back to the community.



FULL - PJ LIBRARY® GOES TO STONE GARDENS

Where: 27090 Cedar Rd., Beachwood, OH 44122

Time: 10:15 – 11:15 am

Volunteers Needed: 10 families

Age Requirement: Families with children ages birth to 5 years old; older siblings welcome.

Project: Families with young children! Come shake, rattle, and roll with the residents of Menorah Park at our music and snack social! Enjoy a music and movement hour with local song leader, Maggie Wise.

Optional Donation Item: Puzzles

About Stone Gardens: Menorah Park’s assisted living residence designed for people who may need assistance with daily activities as they age, have high standards of residential living, value their independence, and retain their individuality.



REPLAY FOR KIDS

Where: Shaker Heights Public Library, 16500 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 40

Age Requirement: 10+ with adult

Project: Learn how to make adjustments to battery operated toys so that they are accessible for all kids

Optional Donation Item: Battery-operated toy

About RePlay for Kids: A non-profit organization of volunteers who repair and adapt toys and assistive devices for children with disabilities in Northeast Ohio.



RONALD McDONALD HOUSE

Where: 10415 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106

Time: 3:00 – 6:00 pm

Volunteers Needed: 10

Age Requirement: 13+ with adult

Project: Make and serve a home-cooked meal to ease the stress for families whose child is receiving medical care.
