Join us for an engaging conversation with Ruth Behar, acclaimed author of Across So Many Seas, in an interview moderated by Violeta Stolpen, director of operations at Jewtina. Ruth’s newest book spans Sephardic history across continents and generations, echoing themes found in the “El Sueño Americano” temporary exhibit at the Maltz Museum and offering a deeply emotional, meaningful, and accessible space for connection.

RUTH BEHAR is an award-winning storyteller, anthropologist, and professor known for her compassionate exploration of identity, home, and the immigrant experience. Born in Cuba and raised in New York, she has lived and researched across the U.S., Spain, Mexico, and Cuba.
Her acclaimed works—including Translated Woman, The Vulnerable Observer, and the documentary Adio Kerida—illuminate Sephardic history and diaspora. A MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient, she is the James W. Fernandez Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan and the author of celebrated books for young readers, including Lucky Broken Girl, Letters from Cuba, and Across So Many Seas.
